This morning as I sit here in the Comfort of E. Windsor, CT, I’m reminded of one of my favorite Red Hot Chile Peppers songs-All Around the World…ok I hope that’s the name of it, because even tho’ I’m a big fan I can’t remember it right now because it’s been a hellah long weekend.
Anyway, for whatever reason it popped into my mind-”All around the world, we can make time….” I wish that were true. I am so bumming that I wasn’t in Oswego for the huge win by my friends. I can’t believe that the Jet pulled it off. Ok, yeah I can. I knew this would happen. I happened when his brother won the Jim Shampine Memorial, it happened when Randy Ritskes won the Jim Shampine Memorial. It seems that everytime I need to be somewhere to support and relish in my friends good moments, I’m somewhere else.
Mark Sammut wins his first ISMA show, I’m not there. Jeff Locke wins his first show, I’m not there. ON and ON it goes. It’s not a bad situation to be in I guess. I’m a pretty lucky bastard when it comes to being a supermodified fan. I get to go and do and see. And frankly I got to see some phenomenal racing this weekend. We packed the stands at both venues, the crowd was electric both nights, the racing was top notch and by golly I got to see Mark Sammut win with a dramatic finish.
So as GQ Bobby Haynes sits behind me watching me type on the lobby keyboard, and Jeff Holbrook just peeked in to say hello, I’m reminded that even though the Chili Peppers get around the world making time, I can’t. I can sure try though. Right now I better get rolling on down the road with the Haynes crew so I can try to make a few more miles and try to make some time as I go coast to coast chasing the “Ultimate Short Track Race Car.”
