AJ to Indy?

I got a call yesterday from my friend AJ Russell. Most of you who read this know that AJ helps me out on the show and he’s hung out here at the gPad and I’ve hung out at the “Lizard Lounge” whenever I head out  there to announce. I’d say we’re good friends.

He called to say he has a very legitimate shot at running the Freedom 100 for Guthrie/Meyer Racing.  What’s the catch? About $30,000. When you think about it, it’s not as much as what you would think, but then to put it into perspective, it’s more than what I’ll make in income for the year.

So how can I make it happen? With this being “Indy Month” on Wailing with Wing Side Up, how cool would it be to get another supermod driver back to The Speedway. Sure it’s not The 500, but it is Indianapolis. I still believe that our drivers are some of the absolute best there are and have just as much talent as anyone who is sitting in that cockpit wheeling around the world’s most famous racetrack, they just need a break.

Maybe some form of grassroots deal where all the supermod fans get together and pitch in some cash. What would it take to get you to want to put the money into something like this? We all know how tough things are right now that’s for sure. I guess it just comes down to your passion for the DIVISION and it becomes more than just a favor for a particular driver. It turns into a desire to see our DIVISION showcased at Indianapoplis. Anyone have any ideas?

In the meantime, I’ve been watching how Stanton Barrett is doing at Indy. He’s got a blog going and as well as watching his Tweets, it’s been cool seeing how he feels through the process of trying to make it through ROP and into his first 500. Check it out http://blogs.indianapolismotorspeedway.com/chasingstanton/2009/05/06/indy-is-special-even-when-it-rains/ then try to tell me that Indianapolis isn’t still “The Greatest Spectacle in Racing!”
